Roulette is a game of chance played
by several thousand people at
casinos. Previously the game had a
sophisticated image among the upper
classes, but now people of all
classes play this game. Roulette
comprises a spinning wheel with
thirty-eight divisions. The American
version of the game has numbers from
2 to 36, along with 0 and 00. The
European version has numbers form 1
to 3 and a single zero.
The objective of the game is to
wager a bet on the number where the
ball will supposedly come to rest.
The wheel rotates and a ball on the
wheel comes to rest at a particular
number when the wheel stops. The
player with this particular number
is the winner.
Several schemes are found in the
market that aim to teach a person
how to avoid failing at the roulette
game. Most of these are fraudulent
as there is no best way to predict
the motion of the wheel or
appearance of numbers. The wheel
design makes it possible for every
number to have an equal chance of
appearing. Hence all strategies that
teach special skills to win at
roulette are dubious and not to be
attempted.
Some roulette players' work on the
premise that in one spin specific
numbers have a better chance of
coming up repeatedly or at
particular intervals. With this
reasoning, they feel that a player
with twenty units of money can win
at least half his original bet back.
However, this logic does not work
since every number has an equal
chance of coming up. Other experts
suggest dividing the wheel into four
halves and betting on the four
numbers that occur at these
divisions, while yet another group
of experts recommends betting on
adjacent numbers.
Another suggested method of betting
is the Martingale system. In this,
the player begins by betting one
dollar. He doubles every successive
losing bet in the hope of winning
his original bet. The problem with
this system is that the player loses
much more to recover a measly
amount. This system is not even
worth trying.
As described above, there are two
systems of playing roulette, the
American and the European. The
European system works without a
single zero. Hence, the casino
advantage for this system of
roulette is less than the American
system. Players should therefore
play the European system that is
available at most casinos to
maximize one's chances of success.
Winning at roulette is dependent on
luck, except if one tries betting on
a five-number bet. This type of bet
has a casino advantage of just five
percent, and the player can strike
it lucky if his combination features
as the winner. Therefore, it is
worth taking a chance on this bet.
Again, one can win if one wagers on
several small runs and not a
specific big run of the wheel.
A player can win at roulette if he
comes with a proper plan in mind. He
must have patience and carefully
think out his betting strategy
before attempting play. He must have
a fixed budget in mind for every day
of play. With this, he can even out
his wins and losses and make a
profit in the bargain. It is very
easy for a player to keep wagering
in the hope of recovering his
losses. This is a foolish strategy
and one must avoid this at all
costs.
A smart player who does not want to
fail in the roulette game must
understand the logic behind the game
and the fact that the casino always
has an upper edge over the players.
Hence, he must come with limited
money and reasoning that winning
depends on luck. With experience, he
can win more number of times and
reduce his failure rate.
