Anyone who is new to playing
baccarat will quickly see that more
experienced players have a lingo of
their own that has developed over
the years of playing the game at
casinos and baccarat lounges. Each
bet has its own terminology and
players can quickly become confused
by all these things if they have
never played the game before.
Having a handy guide to baccarat
terms is one way new players can an
edge while playing and the following
terms are just some of the ones they
may encounter as they learn to play
this game. Baccarat is not an overly
difficult game to play, but practice
and time will help any player learn
the intricacies of going head to
head against the croupier and the
banker that are sitting at their
table.
The Bets
Player hand - the bet that the
player calls when they believe that
their hand is closer to the number
nine than the hand the banker is
holding. Payoff on these types of
bets is usually one to one.
Banker hand - is the bet that the
banker will call when they believe
that their hand will come closer to
the number nine than the player they
are going against. Payoff here is
also one to one, but there some
casinos charge a fee of 5% on all of
the hands the banker wins.
Tie - a bet that is made starting
that the betting player and the
banker will tie hands. Payoff is
eight to one and all the bets placed
on the banker or the player will be
considered a push it they tie.
Other players are allowed to bet on
the current players hand and they do
win a portion of the pot if they
make the right wager.
Each card in baccarat is assigned a
point value. Kings, Queens, and
Jacks are counted as tens. The two
through the nine is counted at their
face value, and the ten is counted
as a 1. The object of the game is to
get as close to the number nine
without going over and seeing a face
card in your hand can certainly dash
your hopes of winning against the
dealer and the banker.
Some versions of baccarat are played
with multiple decks of cards and
players need to be aware of the
rules each casino plays this game
under as they can differ from
establishment to establishment.
